José Molina Serrano was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México on March 11, 1948. His family moved to the growing border town of Tijuana, Baja California México in 1957. At the early age of 13, José began playing the guitar inspired by his next door neighbor, Carlos Santana.

In 1965, the dawning of the rock era in México, José started his professional career playing the local clubs, such as the Aloha Bar, Bum-Bum, the Blue Note, and Tequila A Go-Go. One year later, he moved to Mexico City to record his first single on Muzart Records, "Un Diablo con Vestido Azul," better known in the States as "Devil with a Blue Dress On." At this time, José's band, Los Latino, appeared on several TV shows and made a cameo appearence in Agent 00Sexy, an action film starring Fernando Lujan.

In December of 1967, pursuing his love of blues and American rock, José left Mexico City and immigrated to Hollywood, California soon to discover his everlasting love for jazz. Throughout his stay in Hollywood, José played with Hayward Lee and the Marauders backing some of the best R&B acts of the day, such as The Olympics, Thelma Houston, and Joe Tex. These were magical times, and José also found himself at the same all-night sessions as Ike & Tina Turner, Red Bone, and the Spiral Staircase.

Exactly two years later, an east coast promoter brought José to Hartford, Connecticut to form a latin influenced rock band, known as The Legend. Within tree months this band was receiving double billing with Poco, Ten Wheel Drive, and Humble Pie. The band relocated to Boston in 1970 and played as the back up band for John Lee Hooker and Bo Didley while they toured New England.

During the next two decades, José's music and travels brought him to the Bay Area, and then home to San Diego/Tijuana in 1987. In 1996, long time friend and idol Carlos Santana invited José to travel with him throughout South America and the Caribbean as his personal assistant. During this tour, José was also privileged to sit in with Carlos' band. A year later, José was once again honored to go on the road with Carlos in the same capacity.

José has been writing his own music for the past twenty years and he's proud to present his first CD entitled Only by Grace released January 5th 2000. José lives in La Mesa with his wife Malia.
